FUNGAL TRAINING WORKSHOP

Thursday/Friday 3-4 September 2015

Join us at Landcare Research in Auckland to learn about the fascinating Fungal Kingdom in this unique two day course from a team of experienced mycologists.

This course is an excellent primer for anyone who works with native flora and fauna or biosecurity or is interested in learning about a vital component of all terrestrial ecosystems. We will provide expert tuition in identification of fungi by morphological methods, which will be of particular value to biodiversity managers, field staff, community groups, and students.

Our scientists are world experts in identifying, preserving and maintaining microorganisms and we have a long history of training students from around the world.

Learning experience

The two-day programme will include lectures and practical demonstrations. Course participants will have opportunities to discuss aspects of their work with tutors and to improve their skills and knowledge of:

  • techniques for examining fungi
  • major fungal groups
  • identification based on morphological methods including microscopy
  • fungal conservation
  • fungal biosecurity risks
  • mycorrhizae
  • ecological roles of fungi

Training resources will be provided for each participant and there will be an opportunity to view the Landcare Fungal Collections.
