Mycological Notes 5: Cheimonophyllum sensu Segedin
Jerry Cooper, June 2012
In 1994 Barbara Segedin published a paper discussing some New Zealand species of the small crepidotus-like genus Cheimonophyllum. Here are some notes on recent findings.
This blog is about all things mycological, it is great for small articles that don't need to go into the member's reports section. Anyone who has signed up as a user of this website can post here.
A note from Jerry - Currently (Nov. 2012) all the entries here are mine. Don't let this put you off adding entries. I use this site to make available work I don't intend to publish (in this form at least) and which otherwise wouldn't be widely available but which might be of interest. The entries are not peer reviewed so please also use the feedback facility to stimulate discussion.

Wetland areas are often associated with willows and the S. Island has extensive areas stretching up into the high country along the banks of the braided rivers. They have some specific ectomycorrhizal fungi associated with them.

Over the years I’ve collected a number of white pleurotoid or eccentrically stemmed agarics on wood which were clearly not Pleurotus. I’ve always puzzled over what name to give them. I'm still puzzled. Here are my notes.

During the 2011 Taupo foray I made a brief excursion to the Rangitaiki Reserve off the Napier road. The reserve is a good example of an old tephra plain, or frost-flat, and of national significance as a historically rare ecosystem. These ecosystems were identified as the result of research involving ecologists, botanists and entomologists, but no input from mycologists! So, are there fungi in such places and are they characteristic of these ecosystems?
I spent about an hour and collected thirteen fruitbodies in the frost-flat reserve. Here’s some notes on my observations.
