Hokianga Foray
Kauri Dieback (KD) is an important consideration for this Foray. On the first morning (Monday, May 8) we will be trained how to minimise risk of carrying Phytophthora agathidicida KD spores from site to site. We recommend not foraying in kauri forests on the way to the Foray, especially any forests / reserves north of a line between Dargaville and Whangarei.
Suggested foraying footwear are gumboots (not the lace up type). Certainly avoid footwear with fine tread which may hold spores. Consider carrying a container such as plastic bag to put forest footwear in when returning to our vehicles.
In addition to accommodation options already noted there are two and three bedroom chalets available above and behind the Opononi Hotel from $130 - $170 per night. Like the hotel they are really handy to the Opo Memorial Hall where we have meals and colloquium.
Public Transport
If you are needing transport get in touch with us and we will see what we can do. Check the registration form for this option. Regional public transport (buses) are InterCity between Whangarei and Kaikohe, every day departs 10.20am. We can meet the bus. West Coaster Bus between Whangarei and Dargaville, twice a day weekdays only. Need to organise a lift with a forayer. Also available with all sorts of help is:
