33^rd Foray and 18^th Colloquium, 2019

Awakeri, BOP. Sunday12 to Saturday18 May

Registration period: March 1 – 31, 2019

We will be based at Awakeri Events Centre, eastern BOP, 12 km from Whakatāne.  Awakeri.  There will be four days foraying and on the middle day, Wednesday May 15 the 18^th Mycology Colloquium.  Following dinner are Funnz, RBMMT AGMs and auction.

Special Activities
On Sunday 12 we have arranged a visit to Whakaari White Island. The cost is adults $229, children 15 & under $150.  Participants depart Whakatāne Wharf at 8.00 am.  Trip takes between 5 and 6 hours.  The tour lands and on-land time is in the crater.  Don’t expect fungi in this area.  However, we do have permission to take samples if lucky enough to find any.

On Tuesday morning we have arranged to visit Moutohora Is  The cost is adults $99 children 15 & under $59.  This is a foraying trip and we are planning to have at least 2 hours on the island.  Reserve days Thurs & Fri.

Please book these two activities through our registration form.  This may entitle us to a discount, which will be reimbursed to participants.

Forests and reserves include:
This locality gives us easy access to the forests and reserves of the eastern BOP from Matataa, east to Opotiki, south to Tarawera Falls including Hukutaia Domain, Uretara Island, White Pine Bush, Kohi Point Walk

 Pūtauaki (Mt Edgecumbe), Rotorua Lakes and north to Moutohora Island.

Transport
Nearest airports: Whakatāne 20 minutes by road, Rotorua 50 minutes by road and Tauranga 1 hour by road.  From our base; Drive time Whakatāne 18 minutes, Ohope 20 minutes.  For other road transport contact i-SITE or talk to us.  International participants please correspond with us so that we can advise internal travel options.

Meals
We are self-catering for breakfasts and lunches.  This will be done in the Event Centre.  There will be a roster for setting out the food and cleaning up after breakfast / lunch preparation.  Catered dinners also in this hall. 

Please indicate on the registration form if you have any special dietary needs (vegetarian, lactose-free, gluten-free etc.).  The caterers will endeavour to fulfill special meal requirements provided these are advised in advance.  The kitchen license doesn’t allow us to cook breakfast apart from using toasters, microwaves and hot water urn.  We regret the standard porridge and scrambled eggs are off the menu this year.

Programme

Meet at the Events Centre each morning at 8.00 a.m.  Foray Guide link to follow. The foray programme involves daily sample collection, identification and display on sample tables.  Lab bench activities in the Event Centre

There is cell phone coverage in much of the foraying area.  However, each day please leave your intentions on the provided lists at breakfast.

Mycology Colloquium Day Wednesday 15 May

Participants may present talks on any aspect of mycology.  Length of presentations will generally be 15–20 minutes including questions.  This will be confirmed closer to the time when we know how many speakers there are.  Participants wishing to present are invited to submit a title with the registration form.  Email the title and abstract to David by 31st March 2019.

In addition to Colloquium Day there is an opportunity during Foray evenings to give presentations on interesting finds, fungal groups, etc.  Please add details to your registration form.

For full Fungal Foray participants, the cost of the Colloquium day is covered in the fees. If choosing to attend for a shorter period, or only attending the Colloquium day there is a member charge of $35, non-member $45.  Lunch and teas are an additional $30.

A group photo will be taken during the lunch break.  In the evening, following dinner we will hold FUNNZ, RBMMT AGM’s and The Auction.

The Funnz website carries information about upcoming and previous mycological events.  We encourage anyone who has interesting comments, reports, and “fungal finds” to contribute to this website.  Send items to Petra.  Contributions are accepted throughout the year.

Please register by completing the form online; by 31 March 2019. An email will give immediate confirmation of registration. In the event that you cannot use the online system please email Bevan.  You do not need to be logged into the website to register.  Each person needs to complete a separate registration, however payment can be combined.

Payment:

Payment for the foray is due from 1 March 2019 (the beginning of the FUNNZ financial year), completed by 31 March 2019.  Payment by internet banking is strongly encouraged.  Cheques are also ok.  International participants may pay cash at the foray. Details on how to pay will also be sent by email with registration confirmation.  If you need to cancel there is 100% refund of fees if notifying cancellation before 31 March and 90% if before May 10. Penalties for late cancellation arise because of commitments for accommodation and food.  Receipts will be issued at the foray. Posted, if specifically requested.

Membership of FUNNZ
Membership of FUNNZ for 2019 is due in March.  Cost is $15 waged and $10 unwaged.  Usually it is paid along with the foray fees.  

Student Subsidies:
We are happy to subsidise up to two NZ students wishing to attend the Foray at $300 each.  Please apply early. More information is available from David
