1. Book your accommodation directly at Pohara Beach Top 10 Holiday Park, or at an alternative provider of your choice.  Accommodation is currently held for foray participants at the Holiday Park up to 31 March, and thereafter will be released.  Unlike previous forays, organisers are not responsible for booking your accommodation at Pohara.  If you are willing to share your room with one or more people, please advise the Holiday Park.

2.  Register for the Fungal Foray using the form below.

3.  If willing, register to present a talk at the Mycology Colloquium, 14 May.

Location:

The 2014 NZ Fungal Foray, organised by the Fungal Network of NZ (FUNNZ) will be based at Pohara Beach, 10 km northeast of the small town of Takaka, Golden Bay, in the Tasman District, northern tip of the South Island. The area offers a wide variety of vegetation types, including beech, podocarp and broadleaf forests, and from alpine to coastal. Nearby to the east is the Abel Tasman National Park (including Harwoods Hole, Coast Track, & golden beaches), to the south-west is Kahurangi National Park (2nd largest in NZ; location of the Heaphy Track), and to the north-west is the Farewell Spit bird sanctuary and Puponga Farm Park.   You might want to consider a holiday in the area before and/or after the foray too!

Our work space, Colloquium, and meals will be at the Pohara Community Hall, and most participants will be staying at the nearby Pohara Beach Top 10 Holiday Park.

The foray will begin on Sunday evening, 11 May. Arrival time is from 2 pm Sunday, with dinner available from 6 pm.

The foray programme will involve daily collecting, identification, and provision of display tables of the day’s finds, with the Wednesday set aside for a day of talks and papers (“Colloquium”). The Society’s AGM will be held one evening, and a group photo will be taken during the lunch break on the day of the colloquium. We also hope to attract interest from the public and nearby schools.

Transportation:

For overseas participants, please correspond with us so that we can advise internal travel options. The nearest airport is at Nelson, which is 110 km from Pohara Beach (est. 1¾ hrs by car, from Google Maps – road is sealed but windy in places)

Colloquium:

Wednesday 14th May will be the Mycology Colloquium where participants present talks and papers on any aspect of mycology.  Length of presentations will generally be 15-20 minutes including questions, but this will be confirmed closer to the time when we know how many speakers have offered. Participants wishing to present a talk are invited to submit a title and abstract with their registration form, or email it to David Orlovich ([email protected]) by 31st March 2014.   For fungal foray participants, the cost of the Colloquium day is covered in the fees. If attending the Colloquium day only and bringing your own lunch, a charge of $25 will be levied.
