29th NZ Fungal Foray & Colloquium

Sixtus Lodge, Apiti, Ruahine Ranges. Sunday 17 – Saturday 23 May 2015

Foray Base:

The 2015 foray will be based at Sixtus Lodge providing ready access to the forests of the Ruahine Ranges. Sixtus Lodge is 17 km / 43 min from the northern Manawatu village, Apiti 1, 2. Nearby villages and towns with distance and driving time to Sixtus Lodge: Kimbolton 32 km / 57 min, Mangaweka 49 km / 87 min, Taihape 68 km / 99 min, Feilding 60 km / 78 min, and Palmerston North 78 km / 94 min. Please note that there is no cell phone coverage at Sixtus Lodge and within 5km. NB Nearest petrol is available at Taihape and Feilding.

The area offers a wide variety of vegetation types, including Nothofagus, podocarp and broadleaf forests.

We will be basing the foray and meals at Sixtus Lodge. The Mycology Colloquium will be held at Apiti Community Hall.

The foray will begin on Sunday evening. Arrival time, from 2 pm Sunday, with dinner from 6 pm.

The foray programme will involve daily collecting, identification, and provision of display tables of the day’s finds, with a day set aside for a colloquium. The FUNNZ AGM will be held on the evening of 20th May, and a group photo will be taken during the lunch break at colloquium.

Transportation:

For overseas participants, please correspond with us so that we can advise internal travel options. The nearest airport is at Palmerston North. Please note nearest petrol stations are at Feilding and Taihape.

Colloquium day:

Wednesday 20 May will be set-aside for the Mycology Colloquium where participants may present talks on any aspect of mycology. Length of presentations will generally be 15–20 minutes including questions. This will be confirmed closer to the time when we know how many speakers there are. Participants wishing to present are invited to submit a title with your registration form and email the title and abstract to David Orlovich by 31st March 2015.

For Fungal Foray participants, the cost of the Colloquium day is covered in the fees. If choosing to only attend the Colloquium day there is a charge of $28. Lunch and teas is an additional $25.

Accommodation:

Accommodation is at Sixtus Lodge. The Lodge supplies bunks and mattresses. Please bring your own pillow, bedding and towel. The Lodge has a drying room. Places are limited. Priority will be given to early registrants.

There is limited alternative accommodation available in the area. Some links are listed at the foot of this notice.

Meals:

We are self-catering for breakfasts and lunches this will be done in the Lodge each morning. There will be a roster for setting out the food and cleaning up breakfast and dinner. Dinners will be prepared by various local groups and served in the Lodge. Please indicate on the registration form if you have any special dietary needs (vegetarian, lactose-free, gluten-free etc.). The caterers will endeavour to fulfil special meal requirements if these are advised in advance.

Nearest pub and café are at Kimbolton.

Student Subsidies:

We are happy to subsidise up to 3 New Zealand students wishing to attend the foray. The subsidy will be for the accommodation and facility cost. It does not include transportation or meals. Please apply early. More information is available from David Orlovich ([email protected]).

Registration:

Please register by completing the registration form online at https://www.funnz.org.nz/forays/registration by 31 March 2015. An email will give you immediate confirmation of your registration. In the event that you cannot use the online system please email Bevan Weir ([email protected]). You do not need to be logged into the website to register. Each person needs to complete a separate registration, but payment can be combined.

Payment:

Payment for the foray is not due until 1 March 2015 (the beginning of the FUNNZ financial year).

Payment by internet banking is strongly encouraged. A cash payment at the foray is fine for international visitors. Cheques are also accepted. Details on how to pay will be sent to you by email.

If you need to later cancel, there is100% refund of fees if notifying cancellation before 31 March, 90% if before 8 May. Penalties for late cancellation arise because of commitments of expenditure for accommodation and food.

Receipts will be issued at the foray. They will only be posted if specifically requested.

Membership of the Fungal Network of New Zealand (FUNNZ)

Membership of this organisation for 2015 is due in March; usually membership is paid along with the foray expenses. Membership provides a 10% discount on the cost of the Fungal Foray. The cost of membership is $15 waged and $10 unwaged.
