Foray 2022 postponed til 2023

Dear FUNNZ members

I am writing to advise that the FUNNZ Committee decided last week to postpone the in-person Rotorua Fungal Foray until next year. This was a difficult decision but was arrived at because of the dual issues of managing the foray under the current covid restrictions, in particular the issue of running the foray effectively if people become symptomatic during the foray, as well as wanting to ensure that the institutions supporting the foray organisers are satisfied with the level of iwi and community engagement that has taken place.

This will be a big disappointment to many, and I am sorry not to be bearing better news. We will start planning for next year’s face-to-face foray and at this stage expect it to be in the same location in Rotorua.

For this year, we are planning a 2-day virtual foray on 23–24 May 2022 followed by a one-day virtual mycology colloquium on Wed 25 May. There will be some structured online activities for the two foray days, and I will be organising the colloquium on the Wednesday.

Information about participating in the virtual foray, including Zoom links to join in, will be coming in the next fortnight.

If you would like to present at the colloquium, then please let me know by email and I will start arranging the programme. For the colloquium I will likely limit talks to 10–15 min max so we can fit people in and keep the pace moving swiftly.

Best wishes, David Orlovich.
